Damn, a month goes by quickly when you’re on the road 24/7! New Orleans, Los Angeles, Houston, Sarnia, Chicago…lots and lots of work (for my “real” job, not for book promotion) and lots and lots of good memories along the way.
The worst part of travel for me is the long periods of time spent cooped up in a hotel room, which is why I try to go exploring whenever I can. It’s a bit hard to have fun in the big cities when you’re alone and don’t know anyone, but give me enough alcohol and I become the most talkative person you’ll ever meet.
This past week I was in Los Angeles, and outside of my work-related duties, it was pretty much a four-day drinking binge spread across San Pedro, Hollywood, Universal City, and Venice Beach. I was fortunate enough to be able to hang out with my old friend Jeremy Cordy one night in Hollywood. If you’re not familiar with Jeremy, he’s the director of Troma’s Porking Mandy (which I assistant directed), producer of The Purgation (directed by Elaine Chu), and writer-director of several short films and upcoming horror-comedy movies. In addition to lots of drinking on Sunset, we also went to see the new Child’s Play at the Arclight. It was the second viewing for me, and I still fucking loved it!
Speaking of movies, I was fortunate enough to write a few reviews for CryptTeaze recently as they covered the Cinepocalypse Film Festival. I was sent a screener of Lucky McKee’s latest horror movie Kindred Spirits as well as Pollyanna McIntosh’s bold directorial debut Darlin’. McIntosh was also nice enough to agree to a phone interview with me, which was a real honor; if you’ve seen The Walking Dead, she’s the actress who plays Jadis (leader of the Trash People).
Additionally, I also got to interview one of my favorite comedy-horror novelists, Jeff Strand, about his latest novel My Pretties. Jeff is a damn good writer, and I would recommend absolutely anything written by him.
TOMORROW(!!!) is the Dark X Festival in Hudson, OH! The festival starts tomorrow at 11 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m. on Sunday. Guests include THREE actors who’ve played Leatherface in the past, Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp, Victor Crowley), Alyssa Brooke Levine (Zelda in 2019’s Pet Sematary), Paul T Taylor (Pinhead in 2018’s Hellraiser: Judgement), and many more!
I will be selling copies of my debut horror novella Birthday Girl, and I will even be offering chances to win a FREE COPY of the book! How, you ask?? You’ll have to be there to find out.
Oh, also: I met Ron Jeremy.
